Membrane-Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) – Compact & Energy-Efficient Biological Treatment

MABR supplies oxygen directly through gas-permeable membranes to the attached biofilm. This bubble-free, counter-diffusion mechanism enhances nitrification and enables simultaneous nitrogen removal with significantly lower energy consumption.

Key Benefits

💦 Up to 50% more treatment capacity within existing tank volumes
💦 Up to 4× lower aeration energy for oxygen transfer
💦 Effective ammonia and nitrogen removal
💦 Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification
💦 Resilient to load fluctuations and process disturbances
💦 Easy retrofit with minimal civil construction
💦 Potential reduction of N₂O and greenhouse gas emissions

Typical Applications

💦 Upgrade of existing activated sludge plants
💦 Capacity expansion where land is limited
💦 Ammonia and total nitrogen removal
💦 Biological phosphorus removal enhancement
💦 Municipal and domestic wastewater
💦 Decentralized wastewater treatment and water reuse
💦 Selected industrial wastewater applications

ANAMMOX – Energy-Efficient Nitrogen Removal

ANAMMOX is an advanced biological nitrogen removal process designed for wastewater with high ammonium concentration and a low C/N ratio.

Through a shortened nitrogen conversion pathway, anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing bacteria convert ammonium (NH₄⁺) and nitrite (NO₂⁻) directly into nitrogen gas (N₂). This process significantly reduces the demand for aeration and external organic carbon compared with conventional nitrification–denitrification systems.

Key Benefits

💦 Up to 60% lower aeration energy
💦 Minimal or no external carbon dosing
💦 Up to 90% less sludge production
💦 Approximately 55% lower CO₂ emissions
💦 Lower operating costs for nitrogen removal

Typical Applications

💦 Sludge digestion reject water
💦 Landfill leachate
💦 Ammonia and chemical wastewater
💦 Monosodium glutamate wastewater
💦 Textile mercerization wastewater
💦 Livestock wastewater
💦 Selected municipal and domestic wastewater streams
